Asha is a bodyworker with a intuitive, integrative and functional approach to working with the body to release maladaptive tension patterns, restore and foster dynamic and pain-free movement. He works by weaving together orthopedic bodywork modalities, Shiatsu, Aquatic Bodywork, NKT, Breathwork, Somatic Experiencing, and years of functional movement practice, to support the journey towards wholeness and embodiment.

The modalities I draw from:

Orthopedic Deep Tissue

My clinical deep tissue training in orthopedic assessment, trigger point & myofascial techniques, and treatment plans offers a targeted approach to working with structural imbalances in the musculo-skeletal-facial structures. Whether working with a chronic postural deviation, soft tissue injury, occupational strain, chronic joint pain, or post-injury rehabilitation, I offer a client-specific approach to offer pain relief and integration. I assess your body as a whole and work with you to weave a plan that addresses root structural imbalances.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork offered on a mat on the floor, fully clothed, and generally without lotion/oil. I draw from Zen Shiatsu, where sessions are gentle, slow and can range from deeply relaxing to invigorating. Techniques used range from finger pressure, palm compressed, stretching, vibration, and joint mobilizations. My work also integrates with other techniques that emerge from Thai massage as well.

Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial decompression or cupping is a bodywork approach that uses suction cups to decompress the myofascial area beneath the cup. The process lifts the skin and underlying fascia into the cup and can directly support underlying muscle to release. Cupping helps bring blood flow into the area, which can support with tissue healing, in addition to supporting the break-up of scar tissue. I utilize the multiple cups with movement along the fascial planes, in order to ‘stretch’ the fascia, and facilitate deeper releases.

NeuroKinetic Therapy

NKT or Neurokinetic Therapy, is an approach to manual therapy utilizing Motor Control Theory, neuroscience, and functional anatomy developed by David Weinstock. Woven into my sessions, this modality helps determine faulty movement patterns in the brain’s motor control center, and uses certain protocols to understand which muscles are being inhibited and which muscles are compensating for them. From my assessments in our session I can offer corrective exercises that focus on proper movement patterns and reprogram the motor control center.

Breathwork

Breathwork is a remarkable resource we are all capable of practicing, that utilizes deep cyclical breathing to foster wellbeing, reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, increase immune function, and help restore nervous system regulation. I can offer breathwork coaching before sessions, to prepare the body and deepen our work together.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is an internationally recognized body-based therapy developed to resolve symptoms of trauma through developing and deepening our relationship with the somatic signals and sensations that emerge from our bodymind. I integrate Somatic Experiencing into bodywork or aquatic bodywork sessions, but can also offer SE sessions on their own, which can be offered with or without touch.
