If there is magic on this planet,
it is contained in water - l. Eiseley.

what is aquatic bodywork

Aquatic sessions are offered as a practice of supporting the body in returning to state of fluidity, receptivity and equilibrium. Human beings are naturally comfortable in warm water, as such the 97° salt-water pool where I hold sessions already supports the body to drop into a state of deep surrender.

My work integrates trainings I have undergone in Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Brazil and California in Aguahara, Fluid Presence, Shiatsu, Somatic Experiencing, Trigger Point and Myofascial Release to provide a uniquely integrative treatment.

Sessions begin on the surface of the water, where we take time deepening the breath, acclimating to weightlessness, then slowly inviting the body to soften through gentle waves, compressions, stretches, joint mobilizations, and undulations in the water. After applying a nose clip, we then begin to deepen into underwater movements. Moments of stillness, alternate with moments of dynamic spirals and ‘journeying’ to provide a session that is utterly unique every time.

what are the benefits

Physically, recipients often report reduced Myofascial pain, increased joint mobility, release of chronic tension, a sense of levity and a deep state of relaxation. The weightless medium of the water provides a unique opportunity to mobilize and release the spine, hips, pelvis and limbs without excessive force.

Emotionally, the warm weightlessness of aquatic sessions often induce a state of deep relaxation as muscular holding patterns gradually dissolve. This can gently free the body, and sometimes bring about a release of emotional holding. The experience of being supported and held can offer a medium that supports somatic exploration, re-patterning towards states of equilibrium, release and restoration.

Integrating Aquatic work with Somatic Experiencing or with your Psychotherapist can also be uniquely supportive for working with trauma. It can additionally be utilized as preparation or integration for Psychedelic medicine work. The experience of letting go of control can be difficult and scary for many because of their histories of lack of trust, safety, or trauma. Aquatic sessions can provide a safe container for practicing surrender.

Words from the water:

“In addition to superb table work, Asha does aquatic bodywork which is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s like a mystical experience that goes deeply into what I most need to let go of - almost a psychedelic trip but without the chemicals. It helped reveal for my what I’m needed to release in my life, both from a physical and yet also emotional perspective. You have to try it to get the full sense of it.”

— Robert

“After a time of a lot of anxiety and change in my life, I met Asha and he introduced me to Aguahara. Asha is a beautiful soul with an amazing ability to heal and comfort - I struggle to think of anyone else I’ve met with such a remarkable ability to connect with me at that level. I hadn’t heard of Aguahara therapy before but after some research and guidance from Asha, I felt comfortable to try it. The sessions were truly a magnificent experience. It was incredibly meditative and relaxing, being guided through warm water all while having a constant sense of a weightlessness while supported by Asha. After the sessions I felt a sense of calm with a reset of perspectives. It reminds me that healing sessions such as those I had with Asha are available to us as a catalyst into a natural state of peace.”

— Nick

“Water work may feel like womb work. Ceding control for some measure of symbiosis: with Asha, the practitioner; with the water; with the small epiphanies of a quieted body. In these sessions, I’ve learned to recognize densities and unknowing holds, many that come from touch. I’ve learned, moment to moment, some measure of release, to the mediums around us (water, air, care). An essential experience to widen one’s somatic sensibility.”

— Gabriel

I've been a manual therapist for over a decade and have received many bodywork modalities, and I can say that Asha’s work is unlike anything I have experienced before. Having your body be moved through a medium rather than pressed against a surface is a unique and profound experience, and Asha guides it masterfully. At times when I let go, I could almost feel myself being transformed into a water creature, like a dolphin, porpoise, or other creature of fantasy. Going underwater with subtle yet safe and connected cues from Asha was a whole different relation to breath than occurs in other bodywork. Receiving the work at night under the stars and redwoods was so elemental. It is a rare opportunity to receive this work, and from such a great and talented therapist. Don't miss it.

…the way of water…

“We have glamorized the way of the warrior for millennia. We have identified it as the supreme test and example of courage, strength, duty, generosity, and manhood. If I turn from the way of the warrior, where am I to seek those qualities? What way have I to go?Lao Tzu says: the way of water. The weakest, most yielding thing in the world, as he calls it, water chooses the lowest path, not the high road. It gives way to anything harder than itself, offers no resistance, flows around obstacles, accepts whatever comes to it, lets itself be used and divided and defiled, yet continues to be itself and to go always in the direction it must go. The tides of the oceans obey the moon while the great currents of the open sea keep on their ways beneath.

Water deeply at rest is yet always in motion; the stillest lake is constantly, invisibly transformed into vapor, rising in the air. A river can be dammed and diverted, yet its water is incompressible: it will not go where there is not room for it. A river can be so drained for human uses that it never reaches the sea, yet in all those bypaths and usages its water remains itself and pursues its course, flowing down and on, above ground or underground, breathing itself out into the air in evaporation, rising in mist, fog, cloud, returning to earth as rain, refilling the sea. Water doesn’t have only one way. It has infinite ways, it takes whatever way it can, it is utterly opportunistic, and all life on earth depends on this passive, yielding, uncertain, adaptable, changeable element..”
